What if an Abu Dhabi city tour could offer more than landmarks and photographs? What if it could create a genuine connection with Emirati culture, hospitality, heritage, and people?

That was the goal when Tour By Emirati designed a customized cultural and educational experience in Abu Dhabi for around 67 young participants from Operation Smile UAE, bringing together youth from across the Arab region.
A Cultural Homecoming: Welcoming Young Visitors to Abu Dhabi
Welcoming Youth from Across the Arab Region Imagine being a teenager from Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, or the UAE, stepping into Abu Dhabi for the first time.

The city dazzles with modern marvels, but what does it truly mean to be here? What stories do its walls whisper? What does its culture feel like beyond its vibrant façade?
TourByEmirati had the privilege of answering these questions for around 67 young participants during a customized educational program for Operation Smile UAE. This was not just another item on a conference agenda; it was an opportunity to forge genuine connections between these young visitors and the soul of the Emirates.
The Challenge: Creating Meaning Beyond a Standard Tour
Large youth groups have unique needs that differ from conventional leisure travelers. A successful program must balance structure for safety with an engaging, educational experience that feels anything but a classroom lecture.

It should be interactive enough to captivate young minds, respectful of diverse backgrounds, and memorable enough to leave a lasting impression. A typical sightseeing tour would fall short of these goals. Simply transporting participants between landmarks and sharing basic historical facts would only scratch the surface of Abu Dhabi’s essence.
TourByEmirati designed the program around participation rather than mere observation, allowing young guests to not only hear about Emirati heritage but to see, discuss, and experience it firsthand with local Emirati guides.
Inside the Emirati Cultural Experience
Six Interactive Emirati Heritage & Cultural Workshops
The heart of the experience was a series of six interactive workshops designed to introduce participants to the living traditions of the UAE. Rather than simply listening to explanations, the participants were encouraged to observe, ask questions, and experience Emirati culture firsthand.
Emirati Hospitality & Guest Etiquette
Understanding the importance of welcoming guests with warmth, respect, and generosity.

Arabic Coffee & Dates
Learning the traditions and etiquette associated with serving gahwa and dates in Emirati homes and gatherings.
The Emirati Majlis
Discovering the role of the majlis as a space for family, community, conversation, and hospitality.

Traditional Emirati Clothing
Exploring local attire and understanding its cultural and social significance.

Emirati Handicrafts
Learning about traditional craftsmanship and the skills passed down through generations.

Oud, Bukhoor & Traditional Fragrances
Discovering the importance of fragrance, incense, and bukhoor in Emirati homes and hospitality.

These workshops helped participants understand that Emirati heritage is not simply something preserved in museums. It remains a living part of everyday life, family traditions, and social customs.
Experiencing Emirati Hospitality
Hospitality is a powerful gateway to understanding a culture. Participants didn’t just learn about Emirati hospitality—they felt it. They experienced the warmth, respect, and generosity that define Emirati family and social life.

Small interactions became profound memories. Learning how coffee is served, understanding the significance of sharing dates, or discussing the majlis often proved more impactful than lengthy historical presentations. For these young visitors, these moments made the culture feel personal, like being welcomed into a home rather than merely visiting a country.
Exploring Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with Emirati Guides
The program included a guided tour of the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, a cultural and architectural landmark. Our guides transformed the visit into an exploration of the vision and legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the cultural significance of the mosque, and the values of respect, tolerance, and coexistence in the UAE.

For a diverse youth group from across the Arab region, this visit became a meaningful setting for discussing shared heritage alongside the unique national story of the UAE. In that serene space, the mosque served as a backdrop for education, reflection, and heartfelt cultural conversations.
The Human Connection: Guided by Emirati Voices
One of the defining elements of the program was that the experience was led by local Emirati guides. Rather than simply explaining landmarks, they shared firsthand perspectives on Emirati culture, family customs, hospitality, national identity, and everyday life in Abu Dhabi.

This gave participants the opportunity to ask genuine questions and receive answers directly from people who live the culture being explored. For many of the young visitors, it was their first meaningful interaction with an Emirati, turning a traditional guided tour into a personal cultural exchange.
The Outcome: More Than a Tour, a Meaningful Cultural Connection
The cultural program received overwhelmingly positive feedback, creating a memorable introduction to Abu Dhabi for the participating youth.

Key outcomes included:
- A deeper understanding of Emirati culture, learned directly from local voices.
- Active learning through workshops that transformed education into experience.
- A powerful first-time connection with Abu Dhabi, beyond its modern appearance.
- Meaningful cross-cultural exchanges among participants from different Arab countries.
- A landmark visit that provided historical, architectural, and spiritual context.
- Positive engagement and enthusiasm for the activities and storytelling.
- Stronger institutional value that supported the organizer’s educational and youth-development objectives.
Operation Smile UAE’s student programs aim to cultivate compassionate and empathetic leaders. This cultural program complemented that mission by fostering local understanding, respectful dialogue, and shared learning.
